Black Arts Chicago: Moves and Movements

On May 30, 2013, the Block Museum hosted the kickoff for Black Arts Chicago: Moves and Movements, the inaugural conference of the Black Arts Initiative (BAI) at Northwestern University. The conference highlighted the rich history of black arts in Chicago, staking claim to the city’s unique contributions to the visual arts, theater and performance, dance, music, and literature.

The opening program at the Block included the plenary “The Black Chicago Renaissance.”

The BAI is comprised of faculty, staff, administrators, and students who research, teach, and practice black art at Northwestern and around the world.
